Overprescribed Antibiotics

If you go to an urgent care and find yourself walking away with a prescription for antibiotics, you should probably think twice about taking them.

Antibiotics are unnecessary and even harmful when taken for viruses, colds, or influenza.

Taking them drives the rise of superbugs, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, that make future infections hard to treat.

In a recent article published by the Journal of American Medicine Association, they found that professionals in all outpatient setting prescribed antibiotics for conditions for which they are considered useless approximately 46% of the time.

Before you spend your money purchasing unnecessary drugs, ask the doctor or, more likely, the nurse practitioner, you see to clarify your diagnosis.  If you are told you have a cold, the flu or a virus, think twice about getting that prescription.
